<h2>Switching it Up</h2>
<p>
For the second capstone journal entry, I did not use Sonic
Pi, but instead I spent some time trying out
<a href="http://schismtracker.org/">Schism Tracker</a>.
According to its website, Schism Tracker is “is a free and
open-source reimplementation of Impulse Tracker, a program
used to create high quality music without the requirements
of specialized, expensive equipment, and with a unique
‘finger feel’ that is difficult to replicate in part.”
</p>
<p>
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_tracker">Trackers</a>
are primarily used in making
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiptune">Chiptune</a>
music, but I didn't seek it out for that purpose.
Unlike programming music with Sonic Pi, in Schism, patterns of samples
arranged into channels, which are combined to create a whole song.
I found some
<a href="http://tracker.modarchive.org/">samples on the web</a>
to make my song out of.
</p>
<p>
Just a note about the interface:
Schism uses the keyboard exclusively, there is no mousing around here!
(<a href="https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/refcards/pdf/refcard.pdf">Just the way I like it.</a>)
